A Day With The Deols!

On Friday May 17th, Natasha and I were invited to a private event held at the Radisson Hotel. There was no word about this event as it was only discussed with selected media in order to decrease the amount of commotion that could have been caused if the public was aware of the celebrities who were there!

The reason why it was so intimate was because a legendary Bollywood actor, Dharmendra and his two sons Sunny and Bobby Deol were here to promote the second part to their upcoming film.

Rather than explaining what happened at the event, we decided to bring you guys inside one of the events of the day, which was the press conference with Dharmendra and his sons!

Here are a few pictures we snapped throughout the day, you may recognize a few celebrities and YouTube sensations.

Always wondered how the press looks like when we have to set up for a red carpet event? Wonder no more! We took a picture to show you guys how crowded it can get. It’s literally survival of the fittest when it comes to claiming your territory! PS: Did you recognize the male in the white shirt and grey jeans? That’s no other than Akakaamazing!

We hope you guys enjoyed this post! We are very grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of such a grand and memorable event!

Interview with Vogue Spain’s Flora González

We are ecstatic to share with you all our latest interview with Vogue Spain’s very own, Flora González! She is one of the main writers  behind vogue.es and we were honoured to have the opportunity to interview her and get some inside scoop on how she landed her position at Vogue.

Q: What career choice did you have in mind when you were younger?

A: Apart from being an astronaut (just kidding, but every kid want to at least once during their childhood), I have always wanted to be a journalist. I remember me playing with my neighbour recording our radio shows, I also used to wrote in the school newspaper and when I was 14, I went to the local radio and asked for a job, at first they laughed out loud but then they understood that I was completely serious and they taught me how a radio works. I was there for four more years every day after school and during the summer holidays. So I usually say that I was born as a journalist. No one in my family is dedicated to journalism but my mother is a seamstress and my father worked as model when he was young, so fashion has always been part of my life

QDid you always know you’d end up working in the fashion industry?

A: Not really, when I began at University (in Seville) I had a lot of options, I wanted to be a TV presenter, a travel reporter, investigator… When I finished my studies I worked in the communication department of a political party, but this wasn’t my true vocation, so I decided to focus into fashion.

Q: How did you get your foot in the industry – in terms of your previous employment at GQ and Yo Dona?

A:  It was hard at first… I moved to Madrid to study a Degree in Fashion Communication. Because of that I had to work as an intern in a magazine as part of the practise program, this is how I arrived to Yo Dona. I learnt a lot there but I was truly intrigued about men’s fashion, so I made an appointment with the editor in chief of GQ and I convinced him to try my work, I was at GQ for 9 marvelous months. One day they called me because they needed a writer in Vogue, so my dream came true.

Q: In this fast paced, competitive industry it’s hard for individuals to get an internship or even a job at a company. How were you given the opportunity so fast?

A:  Here in Spain things are really complicated because our weak economy situation, but I was so enthusiastic and I didn’t mind to work hard in order to give my best. This is the secret: being self-confident, constant and try to learn something new everyday, with the right attitude you will get wherever you want. We are a closed team, we try to be good partners and help each others as friends.

Q: In your experience, do you think it’s necessary to have a degree in journalism in order to pursue a career at VOGUE?

A: It’s very important to have a degree in journalism to purse a career at any social-media. When you have to talk or write and a lot of people attend your work you have to manage the best way to communicate the reality and you learn this at university.

Q: How did you find your way to becoming an editor at VOGUE Spain?
A: One day, the editor of GQ called me and said “brush your hair because Yolanda Sacristán (the editor of Vogue) wants to know you”, I was very nervous but she was charming, she told me that she was looking for an eclectic person to write in the specials of Vogue (jewels, kids, brides, collections, gourmet, beauty…), with total availability to travel and knowledge of languages, so I told her that I was her new girl (this weekend was the most intense in my life because I spent hours and hours reading as much as I could about these themes).  In January this year I change my position and I was incorporated in Vogue.es (the website). It is even more faster, complete and dynamic than being a ‘paper editor’, you have to see the catwalks in streaming, you stay awake in special nights like the Oscar Awards… It is fashion in pure!

Definitely this is an intense way that includes lots of hours of magazines reading and studying fashion’s history, but every night researching, every day out of home, every stressful moment it’s worth-full when someone like you is interested about my little life (and when my mother shows my grandma proudly the magazine haha)

Q: And before we wrap up this interview, we just had to ask what are your must have key pieces for spring 2013?

A:  Mmmmm this is a difficult one… haha. Let me think… I am in love with rings (http://www.vogue.es/articulos/manual-de-uso-anillos/17388).http://www.vogue.es/articulos/manual-de-uso-anillos/17388). I am also obsessed with high heels, my favourite one because it’s a classic it’s the Tribute sandal of YSL, I also have full my closet with kaleidoscopic-print pants and jackets, and I always wear my neon satchel bag and my parka. Now I am looking for a perfect jeweled-skirt and a jumper with ‘luxe broderie‘.

Htc or Samsung?

Hi all!

Last month we received the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC Windows Phone 8 from Rogers to review. We were very excited to try out the phones since they are the latest from both brands. Essentially, what we were trying to get out of both of the phones were whether or not they were blogger friendly. Bloggers are always on the go and need a really good device to update their websites from their phone, snap pictures and film videos.

PicMonkey Collage

So which phone was more blogger friendly? The Galaxy S3 or the HTC 8? Let’s find out….

HTC 8

Pros:

  • Camera Quality
  • Easy to find and use apps
  • Organized well

Cons:

  • Dislike the shape of the phone. It doesn’t have a good grip.
  • Corners of the phone make it uncomfortable to place in pockets.
  • Sound quality isn’t that great.

Samsung Galaxy S3

Pros:

  •  Sound quality is really good.
  • Eases grip.
  • Easy to type on – there’s a lot of space.
  • Big screen – good for videos.

Cons:

  • Camera quality is ok
  • Too big to fit in pockets – needs to be held in hands at all times

We even did a photo test for you guys to show you the quality difference between both phones. The photographs are amateur as we snapped pictures of random food around the house!

Clearly, the Samsung Galaxy won our hearts! Although the camera quality isn’t mind blowing, it’s do-able if you have good lighting. You just have to learn to work around the small issues. Other than that, it’s very blogger friendly!

Faze Magazine’s Power Up! Event

Monday evening, my friend, Carthy and I attended Faze magazine’s Power Up! event at the Capitol theatre in Toronto. This was the first time either of us attended a Faze event, and honestly, it was great! We arrived in a very rainy Toronto around 1 PM. It was the first time either of us had been to “Uptown Yonge” – for a pair of lost souls, we did an amazing job on finding our way around that area. We thought that we would surely be the first ones lined up outside the Capitol theatre since we had to take the subway (since we don’t live in Toronto) but astonishingly, there were at least 10-12 people already there – and apparently they had been there since 10 AM. Talk about dedication huh!

The one thing I truly hated about the event was the wait time. We had lined up around 2 PM and had to bare the heavy on and off rainfall. We were supposed to be let in at 5, however we had to wait nearly a half hour before security could let us in. Nonetheless, the wait time was very unpleasant. Although, during the wait time, Bridgit Mendler – the main actress on the Disney channel show “Good Luck Charlie” took some time out of her press interviews and came out to take pictures with the individuals who had been waiting.

Don’t mind the flower on my friends face – she just didn’t want to show herself. Also, I have to say that I left home literally with straight hair but then right when I arrived in Toronto that straight hair turned wavy. Thank god I put my hair up immediately or else it would have turned to my natural hair style, which is super curly!

By 5:30, we were inside. The music was blaring, pizza was out and everyone was getting into the mix of things. My friend and I were walking around to find water and who do I see standing in the corner? Well, no other then Luke Bilyk! Gosh, he’s such a cutie. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take a picture with him at that moment, he apologized and said he had to go help his friend. After our little run in with Luke, we browsed all the different booths at the show. New York Color Canada, Sally Hansen, Lovestruck by Vera Wang and a few other booths were open. None of them really caught our eye though, the representatives weren’t really interacting with the individuals coming around so we just went back to the lounge area. By that time, the show officially started and poor Carth was getting a migraine. I can’t say much about the actual event because to be honest with you, my eyes were on where Luke was. I was on complete Luke-out (haha, get it?). All I really remember is Tyler Medeiros making a special appearance and stating he was co-hosting the event. Girls were just going crazy for that guy, the screams definitely made both Carthy and I deaf that night.

While girls were going crazy for Tyler, Carth and I were on a lookout for Luke. He passed us twice, once he went down to do an interview and then another where he was being escorted on stage to say a few things to the crowd. Right when he got off stage, we ran to the entrance where he had been escorted through earlier. We just knew he would be coming back up that way. Luckily enough, this time around I was able to snap a picture with the cute Degrassi actor. I can honestly say Luke is such a sweetheart, he takes the time to interact with his fans and take pictures with them even when he’s being told by the event organizers that he’s supposed to back to the VIP lounge.

Just look at those cheeks of his! So cute! Ahh.

After taking a picture with Luke, we left the event and walked our way back to the subway station. All in all, I have to say the mission to attend this Faze magazine event was worth it. It was the first time either of us explored that area of Toronto, we both tried gelato for the first time, we met Bridgit Mendler and Luke Bilyk and to top it all off, we received some nifty “swag bags” from Faze Magazine (which I’ll be posting very shortly).

I swear, this is the longest post I’ve written in a long time but I hope you guys enjoy it. I know we haven’t been blogging much but it’s getting hard since school is starting so soon! I’ll leave you guys with a picture I snapped leaving the event.
