Manicure Monday: DIY – Inexpensive Ciate Nails!

Hi lovelies!

I’m back with another nail post, but this time – rather than posting pictures on how to create my design, I decided to create a video. I recorded this some time last week, while I was trying to figure out how to record on my new camera. I wish I could of filmed this tutorial after the weekend since I learned how to film correctly on Friday!

I’ve been seeing the whole Ciate velvet nails look for quite some time now, and I really wanted to create a velvet look but splurging $21 for the kit is just not worth it to me. So, I took it upon myself and recreated this look for less than $5. The nail polish I used (Revlon’s polish in “Garden”) was probably $2 or $3 however, the velvet/flocking powder itself? A marvelous $0.96!! Yes, you read that right, just 96 cents! A huge difference in price compared to Ciate’s $21 kit.

The video is a bit blurry, but nonetheless, it’s very straight forward and has extremely easy steps to follow, so I hope you guys enjoy it!

Velvet/Flocking powder I used (also available in different colours): Ebay
Nail Polish used: Revlon in the shade “Garden”

A Day With The Deols!

On Friday May 17th, Natasha and I were invited to a private event held at the Radisson Hotel. There was no word about this event as it was only discussed with selected media in order to decrease the amount of commotion that could have been caused if the public was aware of the celebrities who were there!

The reason why it was so intimate was because a legendary Bollywood actor, Dharmendra and his two sons Sunny and Bobby Deol were here to promote the second part to their upcoming film.

Rather than explaining what happened at the event, we decided to bring you guys inside one of the events of the day, which was the press conference with Dharmendra and his sons!

Here are a few pictures we snapped throughout the day, you may recognize a few celebrities and YouTube sensations.

Always wondered how the press looks like when we have to set up for a red carpet event? Wonder no more! We took a picture to show you guys how crowded it can get. It’s literally survival of the fittest when it comes to claiming your territory! PS: Did you recognize the male in the white shirt and grey jeans? That’s no other than Akakaamazing!

We hope you guys enjoyed this post! We are very grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of such a grand and memorable event!

Met Gala Red Carpet!

Does anyone else get super excited to criticize red carpet events as much as I do?! Probably not. I have to say, in the future, the best thing that’s going to come along with being a journalist is attending red carpet events and talking about the hits and misses but until that day arrives, I’m content with writing about such things on our lovely website!

Let’s not wait one more second and just jump right into things!!

Nina Dobrev – MISS

nina-dobrev-met-ball-2013-red-carpet-03

Nina definitely got the punk side down, but I’m just not a fan of the Monique Lhuiller dress. It just doesn’t look as amazing as it should and I feel that if she went with something else, it may have been a better option.

Nicole Richie – HIT

nicole-richie-met-ball-2013-red-carpet-01Nicole Richie’s outfit has made me so speechless that I only need five words to describe it: Bold. Daring. Stunning. Love. PUNK!

Ashley Olsen – MISS

mary-kate-ashley-olsen-met-ball-2013-red-carpet-01Ashley Olsen showed up in a Dior Couture gown from 1972. Although I love the gown, I just wish it didn’t have the chiffon on top of it. You really can’t see the detailing of the dress which is really such a shame. This look would have definitely been a hit without the chiffon on top!

Taylor Swift – HIT

taylor-swift-met-ball-2013-red-carpet-01If you read my red carpet posts, you’ll know that I’m almost never a fan of Taylor Swift’s red carpet picks just because they are always all the SAME! But to my surprise, she went for a very different and daring look and I have to compliment her on it. The top of this J Mendel dress is stunning – I love the lace and collar! Well done Taylor, you finally picked the right gown!

Kim Kardashian – MISS

kim-kardashian-kanye-west-met-ball-2013-red-carpet-01I feel like so many people missed the memo tonight … like hello, the theme is punk-fashion not florals. For anyone who is an entertainment and fashion junkie like myself you’ll know of the whole Anna Wintour and Kim Kardashian situation. For those who don’t, I would love to fill you in! Let’s just say, Anna Wintour does not think of Kim kindly when it comes to fashion. She’s supposedly said before that Kim is just one of those reality stars that gets into all the latest shows and whatnot simply because of her status, and other than that, she has no business in fashion. Hence, why last year, Kim K was blacklisted from the event. However, with her beau performing at this years Met Gala, Kanye was able to score an extra ticket….which obviously means, Kimmy was able to finally come!

In terms of her gown, I feel like Kim has been fashion confused since she became pregnant. Her style is all over the place and well, she didn’t really rock the red carpet tonight. I was expecting more from her, but instead she wore a floral gown and some gloves…like where is the punk side to that outfit?! Overall, definitely a disappointment. She did not “Wow” anyone at her first appearance at the Met gala.

Well anyway, that’s my review for the Met Gala’s red carpet. I really hope more people follow next years theme since this year was kind of a flop.

PS: I wonder how Anna Wintour felt when she saw that both her and Kim K were wearing floral gowns tonight?

3 Chic & Trendy Spring Outfits!

Spring is here and the weather is finally getting nice in Canada. These past few weeks the weather has been emotional. One day it’ll be warm, the other it will be raining or snowing. But hopefully, the warm weather we’re having this week is here to stay, because I am so tired of it being cold!

Late last night I decided I’d make a post on ways to dress up this spring. I’ve created three totally different looks, so I hope you guys enjoy them!

Untitled-1 (1)

Lightening Bolt Crop Top, Top Shop – $44

Fluro Mini Skater Skirt, Top Shop – $43

Drey- Nly Shoes, Nelly.com – $86

“Hot Shot in the City” – Isn’t this look gorgeous? I love it! The skater lime green skirt looks amazing when combined with the lightning bolt hot pink crop! I decided to pair this look with a pair of chunky white heels. The top and skirt do all the talking in this outfit, pairing it with any accessories or a drastic heel would just kill the look!

casually cool copy

Moto Sleeveless Shirt, Top Shop – $41

Scallop Hem Shorts, Top Shop – $47

Pastel Pink Pointy Toe Pumps, Shoe Mint – $40

Michael Kors Oversize Gold Watch – $295

“Casually Cool” - As you can tell by the outfits name, this is a more casual/played down outfit. I decided to pair white scallop shorts with a bleach sleeveless denim shirt. Add some pastel coloured heels (in this case, pink!), pair it with your favourite watch and you’re ready to go!

cozy is rustic

Knitted Tape Yarn Crop Jumper, Top Shop – $47

White Tailored Trousers, River Island – $18

Black Cutout Boots, The Iconic – $190

Mixed Silver Rings, Asos – $10

“Cozy is Rustic” – Having a lazy day? Don’t even look at those sweatpants. I once came across a quote that said if you wear sweatpants, it means you’ve given up in fashion. I couldn’t agree more with it. There are so many other alternatives if you’re having a lazy day! For this outfit, I paired a knit yellow cropped jumper with a comfy pair of trousers – a very relaxed, loose and comfortable look if you ask me. To finish the look, I paired it with some cut out boots and a few silver rings.

I hope this has inspired you guys into creating some really chic spring looks! Remember, don’t let clothes wear you, YOU wear the clothes. In other words, follow your own style and wear whatever you want. Don’t be a trend follower, be a trend setter!

Wantable!

We were recently contacted by Wantable to review their monthly makeup box. Worth about $100, Wantable’s makeup box can be bought for $40 or if subscribed, for $36. Besides the 4-6 full sized items, the best part of the box is to receive products that best suit your style! How fantastic is that?

If you guys are interested in finding out more or would like to sign up to receive your own makeup box then visit Wantable now!

Here are the products that were sent to us:

We’ve tried other beauty boxes such as the luxe box, but the only difference is that with luxe box, you will rarely get full sized products. Most of them are sample sized! And although it’s nice to receive brand name products, we might as well go to the Bay or Sephora to receive the same samples. At the end, it just isn’t worth it.

Whereas with Wantable, we received *full* sized products. Yes, we did not hear of a few brands but it’s great to have the opportunity to test out new brands. We genuinely really liked most of the products and cannot complain with the items we have received.

Especially when the overall value of this box is $101.62!

And we totally forgot to mention that they not only have a monthly beauty box, but also a jewelry box! The process is similar if you prefer to receive 4-6 jewelry pieces, all you have to do is sign up, fill out a little questionnaire and you will receive jewelry that was picked out just for you within the next month!

Wild Cactus

IMG_9164

Recently, La Lobana and wantable.co teamed up! We were sent one of their beauty boxes of the month – and may I add that we were impressed with the items we received! The box contained a few full sized beauty products, and one of the items was this gorgeous polish!

If you’re a nail polish addict, be sure to look forward to a nail polish in each beauty box from wantable.co. From the looks of it, they always include a Color Club polish in all of their boxes – which if you ask me, is awesome.

The thing is, right when I saw this polish…I just had to wear it. Yes, I know, I’m addicted to changing my nail polish but can you blame me? There are just too many colours out there for me to try! Anyhow, here’s how it looks:

IMG_9096

The color we received was Wild Cactus by the Color Club. What I decided to do was add a bit of white polish to each nail, kind of like an ombre affect. I’ve never tried any of the Color Club’s polishes before, but I can’t complain. I have nothing bad to say about this brand. My polish has not chipped yet and it’s been four days – which really surprises me, because usually, nail polish doesn’t last too long on my nails. In fact, I can see myself purchasing some polishes from the Color Club….especially if they have more gorgeous colours!

Be sure to keep a look out over the next few days for our full review on Wantable.co’s beauty box - you will not want to miss it!

Doggy Edition: Homemade Dog Food

IMG_8969

Healthy, home cooked meals – it doesn’t get better than that! Whether you’re cooking for yourself or your four-legged family member, it all comes down to knowing what you put in your mouth! Like myself, I’m always cautious as to what I’m feeding my little pup, Charlie. Of course, you have your store bought dog food but how many of you actually research the quality of the kibble or canned food purchased? Doing my fair share of research, for those of you purchasing commercial brands I would highly suggest that you look into natural, organic and holistic foods. To help those who are interested, I recommend visiting the Dog Food Adviser, here you can view numerous reviews of the many different types of dog food out there – the best, the worst, it says it all.

In addition to the average dog food I also prepare meals for Charlie at home. Now, some of you may be a little skeptical or even a little afraid, but having done a little research and knowing what ingredients are right for your pet there is absolutely no doubting the nutritious value of a healthy home-cooked meal. Keep in mind that everything is fine given in moderation. You should be able to balance it out between the kibble and the food you’ve made from scratch, therefore covering the nutrients from both foods that your pet needs in order to live a healthy life.

I recently cooked up dinner for my little Charlie and boy did he love it! I first cooked some lentils and rice together, set it aside and then took some ground turkey, carrots and celery – cook until the turkey is brown. I then incorporated all the ingredients together, gave it a little mix, let it cool and then served!

Try it out, serve your pet gourmet meals right from home because at the end of the day they truly deserve the best.

Strawberry Stars

IMG_8931Recently, on Instagram I saw youtuber Hollyannaeree take a picture of four polishes she received from Etude House. They were so cute that I instantly jumped onto ebay and started searching for one of the polishes. Originally, I wanted the blue one called “Mintchoco Chip” but it was out of stock. So, I went with the next best colour, Strawberry Stars!

IMG_8917

IMG_8928Isn’t the bottle adorable?! I love how it looks like an ice cream cone!

photo

Here’s the final swatch! I am in love with this polish. I’ve been looking for a really good confetti type polish for the longest time and I have to say, Etude House has some really good quality ones! The only thing that sucks is that you can only purchase them on Ebay but they’re hard to find. Some of the sellers sell these for $7.99 per bottle – which if you ask me, is way too much for this small bottle. I’d rather spend that much on an Essie polish. However, I was lucky enough to find one seller selling these polishes for $4.49! The only colours they have available at the moment are Strawberry Stars, Apricot Candy and Lemon Sherbert … seems like everyone is out of the Mintchoco chip colour!

If you’re interested in trying out one of the Etude House ice cream polishes, then here is the link to the seller I bought mine from since that’s a pretty reasonable price they’re selling it for: You can view it here

Annabelle & Marcelle Cosmetics Spring Makeup Collection!

IMG_8668

It’s that time again! Annabelle and Marcelle cosmetics have launched another collection! We were very pleased with the products we received this time around, so let’s get to it and review the products!

bronzer
Biggy Bronzer in Haute Gold: I am in LOVE with this bronzer! It is absolutely gorgeous! I use it as a blush and it is just so perfect that it has become my “go-to” blush. As you can see, this is a shimmery bronzer with a slight orange undertone. I know the swatch gives away a dirty orange colour, but mind you, this bronzer will not make your face look orange (which by the way is something I tend to avoid). When applied to my cheeks, the bronzer gave me a beautiful peachy, summer-ready glow!

powderColour Control Pressed Powder in Medium/Dark:  A very fine and silky powder which can be used to set your foundation or to control any shine on your face. I personally haven’t used this product as much to know whether it’s a hit or miss. I will say though, since the powder is very fine, it does a great job to give you a nice smooth finish.  In addition, this powder is great to have on the go as it also includes a brush and mirror which I failed to take pictures of.

eyeshadowprimer

Velvety Eye Shadow + Primer in Rose: The product claims that it is antioxidant, waterproof, has a 12 hours hold and is crease proof. Honestly, I think its genius to have a your eye primer already placed in an eye shadow since it saves us girls the extra step! In this case though, I would probably use this product more as a primer alone than an eye shadow. I feel that this product or moreover the shade that was sent to me wasn’t too pigmented which is why it served more as a light base colour for my lids.

illuminizer
Colour Control Natural Finish Instant Perfecting Base: Amazing product! This primer will diminish the look of fine lines, giving you a flawless finish under your foundation. In fact, I have used this product alone with just a setting powder and it works just as great as a BB cream!

Colour Control Luminous Finish Instant Perfecting Base: Another amazing product! This product reminds me a bit of MACs Lustre Drops. You can apply this product as a base or you can mix it in your foundation before your application. Either way if you’ve always wanted to create that dewy, healthy, Kim Kardashian glowing skin, you sure as heck can with this! I also find that this product works gorgeous as a highlighter as well.

mascaraExpandable Mascara: This mascara is quite average. I’m not a big fan of Annabelle’s mascaras, I’m not too fond of their wands/bristles.

eyeshadowRoll-On Eyeshadow + Liner in Brown: Another 2 in 1 product very conveniently made. The roll-on eyeshadow is a really pretty shimmery brown colour. I really enjoy using this shadow on a daily basis as it gives me a really natural wash of colour over my lids. On the other hand, I wasn’t too amazed with the eye liner. Even though it looks pigment in the swatches above, it was really hard for me to get an even liner application. If you’re going to use this liner, you’re definitely going to need some re-applying.

Overall, I really loved Annabelle and Marcelle’s collection. This batch is definitely one of my favourites!

Kozmic Colours

IMG_8794

It’s literally been forever since I made a post about anything nail related. I guess that’s what happens when other things take over your life!

My mom came home with four nail polish bottles a few weeks ago and I was absolutely thrilled to try them out. It’s been so long since I purchased any sort of nail related item – and in all honesty, I’ve really missed doing my nail designs. For today’s post, I’m just showing you guys swatches of the four polishes, but I really hope I’ll have time to set aside and create a nail design soon. I’ve just been feeling so uninspired recently that I have no clue what design to do. I don’t want to do anything overrated since that’s not my thing – I enjoy creating designs that have my own little twist to them, they’re just more fun.

IMG_8815

I have to say, I really like these polishes. All you need is two coats for all colours (except white – you’ll need three for that) and you’re done! The finished look is also really nice, they have a gel like finish. In comparison to some other brands, ie. Sally Hansen, I think I prefer Kozmic Colours more when it comes to certain shades. I just feel like a lot of Sally Hansen polishes have been lacking recently. Sometimes they’re sheer, such as my Mellow Yellow one. I have to apply four to five coats to get the colour to appear and even then, it’s still dull and by the time all the coats are on, everything looks thick. Other times the polishes can be very thick, such as the white tip polish I have.

So….will I be purchasing more Kozmic Colours nail polishes in the future? You bet I will! I look forward to trying out other nail polishes this brand has to offer, and who knows, maybe I’ll get inspired soon and create a design in the upcoming weeks!
